Table. How to administer intravenous magnesium sulfate

NaCl 0.9%

Hartmann’s solution

Glucose 5% in water

Glucose 5% in NaCl 0.9%

Each 5 mL ampoule should be diluted by adding at least 7.5 mL of a compatible solution

Administer over 20 minutes
Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate 50% concentrated injection (2.5 g/5 mL and 5 g/10 mL)

Each 5 mL vial contains approximately 10 mmol of magnesium ions

Each 10 mL vial contains approximately 20 mmol (40 mEq) of magnesium ions

NaCl 0.9%

Each 5 mL vial should be diluted by adding at least 7.5 mL of a compatible solution

Each 10 mL vial should be diluted with at least 15 mL of a compatible solution
